Forum Rationale

Entrepreneurship is all about innovation and creativity, which are major characteristics of young people. It is also a way to generate and promote economic growth. Thus entrepreneurship can be considered both a way of thought and of behaviour, in that it not only requires imagination and passion, but also specific traditional functions such as marketing and finance.

The theme of the inaugural Forum is "Press Here to Start : Beyond the Talk". It serves as a platform for young entrepreneurs, both established, as well as the up-and-coming, to sit down and openly discuss the challenges and opportunities that face those seeking this particular pathway.

Purposes

  • Facilitating participants to derive a clear deliverable action plan or strategic road map
  • Equipping young potential entrepreneurs with the necessary skills for starting their business
  • Empowering young Chinese to actualize their possibilities, hence reinforcing a culture of entrepreneurship
  • Building a unique supportive network for young Chinese entrepreneurs around the world
  • Sharing of business ideas among worldwide young Chinese

  • 45 years old or below
  • in any regions / countries

The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) was founded in 1960 and has been committed to serving the youth of Hong Kong. Our care for the young is provided through a variety of services, activities and programmes, which have an annual attendance of five million. We encourage youth to reach their fullest potential and with community support, we now have over 60 service units. We also have 12 core services, which include the Youth S.P.O.Ts, M21 Multimedia Services, Employment Services, Youth at Risk Services, Counselling Services, Parenting Services, Leadership Training, Volunteer Services, Education Services, Creativity Education and Youth Exchange, Leisure, Cultural and Sports Services, and Research and Publications. We encourage young people to grow into responsible and dutiful citizens and we now have over 160,000 registered volunteers and 370,000 enrolled members. We believe that our motto HKFYG • Here for You reaffirms our commitment and dedication to the young people of Hong Kong.

The Dragon Foundation was inaugurated in February 2000 with wide community support as a joint initiative of the Home Affairs Bureau and Home Affairs Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG). It is incorporated under the Companies Ordinance in Hong Kong and the Secretariat is administered by HKFYG. It is a non-profit, charitable organization with a long-term commitment to nurturing young people of Chinese ethnicity worldwide as tomorrow's leaders.

The Foundation runs a series of programmes to forward its mission. Young Chinese leaders from around the world are provided with opportunities to meet, explore topical global issues and exchange ideas, thereby building a network among them. Flagship programmes of the Foundation include the "Global Youth Forum", which invites 400 worldwide participants to attend a 2-day conference studying issues of regional and global importance; the "Global Citizens Programme", which sends Hong Kong university students abroad to equip them with international perspectives and the knowledge and skills of becoming a committed citizen of the globe; the "Dragon 100", which annually invites 100 young Chinese leaders from around the world to get together to exchange ideas and to build network; and a "Lecture Series for Youth Leaders," where prominent figures of international repute are invited to share their experience and expertise with young leaders in Hong Kong. The Dragon Foundation also organizes visits and exchanges in order to establish a solid network among youth leaders, thus creating synergy that can lead to social improvement. "DragoNation", an alumni network of past programme participants is formed to gather young Chinese leaders from around the world to discuss and plan for further contribution to society.
